Our story
We got tired of watching good floors fail
We started DP Flooring Services LLC because we kept running into the same thing: epoxy floors that looked incredible for one season and started lifting by the next winter. Almost every time, the coating was not the problem. The prep was. Somebody skipped the grinder, rolled a product over a sealed or oil-soaked slab, and the bond never had a chance to form.
So that is the part we refuse to rush. Every floor we take on gets mechanically profiled, every crack gets chased and filled, every pit gets patched, and every slab gets checked for moisture before we quote it rather than after. It is slower. It is also the whole difference between a floor you forget about for fifteen years and one you are calling somebody about next spring.
When you hire us, you get us. Drayton and Dylan are the ones who come out to measure, the ones running the grinder, and the ones who answer the phone when you call. There is no salesperson working a commission and no crew you have never met pulling up in an unmarked van.
We live here and we work here. The garages, basements, shops and warehouses we coat belong to our neighbors across Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington-Normal and the towns in between. Word travels fast in Central Illinois, and we would rather earn the next job than close this one.
How we work
Four things we will not compromise on
- Do it right the first timeNo shortcuts on prep, no thin coats to stretch material, no “that will probably hold.” If the floor needs another step, it gets another step.
- Attention to detailClean edges, tight cut-ins, even flake coverage and a topcoat with no roller marks in it. On a floor, the details are the job.
- Hard work, no excusesWe show up when we said we would, we work the hours it takes to hit the cure window, and we clean up behind ourselves before we leave.
- Straight answersHonest pricing, realiztic timelines, and a plain-English explanation of what we are doing and why. If epoxy is wrong for your floor, we will say so.

Epoxy, and only epoxy
We do one thing on purpose
We are not a general flooring company that also sells coatings, and we are not a concrete contractor with a sideline. DP Flooring Services LLC installs epoxy floors. That is the whole business, and narrowing it that far was a deliberate decision rather than an accident of how we started.
The reason is that epoxy is unforgiving in a way most trades are not. Almost everything that determines whether a floor lasts fifteen years or fifteen months happens before the coating goes down, and it happens in details that do not look like much at the time: whether the profile you ground into the slab is actually right for the system you are installing, whether you moisture tested or assumed, whether you chased that crack or skimmed it, whether the base coat was still inside its window when the flake went into it. Get any of those wrong and the floor looks perfect on handover and fails a year later, by which point somebody else has been paid and moved on.
Those judgements come from doing the same work over and over, not from doing five trades adequately. Every floor we grind teaches us something about how a particular era of Central Illinois concrete behaves — how a 1950s Urbana garage slab differs from a 2010 Savoy pour, what a pole barn floor outside Mahomet does when nobody put a vapor barrier under it, which Danville shop floors are holding forty years of oil. That knowledge is only worth anything if you keep showing up to the same kind of job.
It also means we will tell you when epoxy is the wrong answer. If a slab is too far gone to be worth coating, if your basement has a water problem that needs solving before anything goes on the floor, or if what you actually want is a finish we do not install — we will say so and point you somewhere useful. We would rather lose a job than take one we know will not hold up, because in a market this size the floors we install are the advertising.
What it is like to work with us
No surprises, start to finish
You get a real number
Itemized and in writing, broken out so you can see what the prep costs, what the system costs and what any extras cost. Not a range, not a per-square-foot rate multiplied out on a phone — an actual quote for your actual floor, after we have stood on it.
You get real dates
Install days and cure dates, written down before we start. Cure times move with temperature and humidity, so we would rather tell you to wait two extra days than watch tire marks press permanently into a floor that was still green.
You get the space back clean
Grinding is dusty and we run vacuum shrouds and HEPA extraction to keep it contained. Whatever film is left, we clean up ourselves. Your driveway, shop or basement should look better when we pull out than it did when we pulled in.
The owners
Drayton Potthast and Dylan Pierson
Two owners, one crew, and both names on the truck.
Between us we handle everything from the first phone call to the final walkthrough: measuring your slab, moisture testing it, quoting it honestly, grinding it, coating it and handing it back to you with a care sheet. Nothing gets subcontracted out to whoever was available that week.
That is deliberate. It means when we tell you a floor will be ready Thursday, it is the person who will actually be standing on it Thursday telling you — and it means there is nobody to point at but us if something is not right.
Want it done right the first time?
Free, itemized, on-site quotes anywhere in our service area. We will tell you exactly what your slab needs — and what it does not.
